Getting The Most Out Of Your Beer

By: Keith Riffle
Beer is a precious commodity, and since you pay good money for it, you might as well bring out the best in it...
Some people drink their beer from a bottle, some people drink it from a can, and some people drink it from a glass. I've discovered a simple trick to improve my beer's taste, and it involves drinking it at the right temperature. Here's what I do:
1. Rinse out a glass with water.
2. "Shake" the glass upside down over the sink so that a few drops of water remain in it (don't dry the glass).
3. Put the glass into the freezer, along with your favorite refrigerated beer, but make sure to remove the beer within 15 to 20 minutes so it doesn't freeze! Some freezers may chill the beer faster than others, so you may want to freeze the beer for only 10 minutes.
4. Holding the glass at an angle, pour the beer into the glass and enjoy. You'll notice that the beer taste a lot better this way!
Freezing the beer is only half of the story. If you drink the "big 3" (Bud, Miller, or Coors) consider trying some imports or microbrews...once you try them, you may never go back unless your "beer meter" is on empty. Here are some of my favorites:
1. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
2. Anchor Steam
3. Samual Adams Boston Ale
4. Becks Dark
5. Guiness Draft Beer
6. Bass
7. Pete's Wicked Ale
8. Shiner Bock
9. Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve
10. Boulevard Wheat or Ale
These beers do cost a little more, but remember, you get what you pay for...and you will might drink a little less so that you can focus more on the taste.
If you really like beer, consider brewing your own at home. You can buy a "Mr. Beer" for as little as $29.99, and create your own classic beers at home. You can get one at the following link:

I used to drink Coors, Bud, and Miller until I discovered micro brews and imports. That is when I became a "real" beer drinker...and I encourage you to do the same.
